                The Blue Ribbon Society

Introduction

The generous support of caring individuals has always been vital to the success of SCOLA.  Since 1979, thousands of adults living in Lackawanna County have benefited from the literacy skills they have acquired through SCOLA as a result of this generosity.

SCOLA's growth is the benchmark of the success and quality of its programs.  In recent years the need for literacy services has continued to increase.  We want to ensure that the ability to improve one's lot in life continues to be available.

In recent years several people have named SCOLA as a beneficiary in their estate plans.  People who make such planned gifts are insuring that the support they provided SCOLA during their lifetime will continue after they are gone.  Such gifts are invested and used for the long-term benefit of SCOLA in accordance with the wishes of the donor.

Purpose

The Blue Ribbon Society of SCOLA Volunteers for Literacy was established in 2001 for the purpose of emphasizing planned gifts as a means of building a strong financial basis to insure the future of SCOLA programs.  It enables those interested in SCOLA to consider alternative methods of giving and recognizes in a meaningful way those who qualify for membership.

  3. Name SCOLA as the full or partial beneficiary of a life insurance policy, pension plan or IRA, certificate of deposit, savings account or similar fund.
